Job Title: Program Associate                                

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

Description: The Program Associate will assist in the coordination of educational materials, public programs, and special events that align with the museum’s mission and goals. The person in this role will be both a part of the education and visitor experience departments, serving as a representative to the public and a support for the staff. Mostly, this role will require the employee to be present for various events and programs at the museum, assisting at the front desk with visitor intake, and working to support educators, artists, and program participants in a variety of activities from art classes, to lecture, community festivals, etc.

Education and Experience: 2-4 years formal/informal education experience; associates or bachelors degree in arts related field preferred. Experience working with a team; Previous experience in customer service or public-facing roles, preferably in a museum, gallery, or similar setting. Organizational Structure: Reports to the Director of Learning and Engagement as a member of the Biggs’ Education and Visitor Service Departments; works closely with education, especially the Museum Educator, and curatorial program associates and visitor service team members, while also collaborating regularly with the rest of the staff and leadership team. Additionally, the Program Associate will be asked to manage volunteers and interns when necessary.

 

Schedule and Compensation: Part-time, $20/hr. Typical days and hours for this position will be Thursday – Sunday, 10 – 5. This role is not conducive to work-from-home arrangements, and candidates must reside in or relocate to the Dover, DE area.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of visitor experience tasks, including attending to guests, answering phone calls, collecting visitor information, ticket management, etc.
  • Provide on-site assistance during public programs, guided tours, and special events, ensuring smooth execution and positive visitor experiences.
  • Act as a resource for visitors by answering questions and facilitating understanding of exhibits and museum offerings.
  • Contribute to the creation of hands-on activities, workshops, tours, and other experiences that engage visitors with the museum’s mission
  • Work with local art leagues, contracted artists, camp directors, and student volunteers or interns on educational programs and special projects
