Spanish Language Program Coordinator
STATUS: Part-time
JOB SUMMARY
The Spanish Language Program Coordinator will strive to ensure that the museum and its programs are accessible, welcoming, and engaging for Spanish-speaking audiences. Reporting to the Manager of Learning and Engagement, they will support and expand existing Spanish language activities at the museum. Their duties include leading programs, translating materials, and collaborating with community organizations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promotes multi-cultural educational content that reflects the diversity of the museum’s collection and community
- Serves as the primary contact for existing community partners focused on Spanish-speaking audiences and develops relationships with additional partners in collaboration with the Manager of External Relations
- Reviews and edits the work of contract translators or translates museum materials as needed. Materials may include object labels, exhibition wall texts, and brochures.
- Ensures key materials for family programs, including step-by-step prompts for art-making activities, are presented in both English and Spanish
- Leads at least one weekend tour or workshop at the museum each month
- Develops content for educational programs and workshops in collaboration with other members of the museum’s Learning and Engagement team
- Organizes a community day for Spanish-speaking participants as part of the museum’s 2025 summer festival season
- Collaborates with community partners to lead offsite workshops related to the museum’s permanent collection and exhibitions. Selects sites in which to implement programs, manages registrations, oversees event setup, and communicates relevant information to participants.
- Collaborates with participating K-12 schools to offer Spanish language programming within classrooms as part of the museum’s Adopt-an-Artwork program. Sessions may be held virtually via Zoom or onsite at participating schools.
- Liaises with the museum’s Development team to explore potential funding to support and expand Spanish Language programming. Assists in writing grant applications as needed.
- Collects information required for grant reporting and ensures museum achieves stated goals within successful grant applications
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Fluent in English and Spanish with ability to translate and edit written materials. Preference given to native Spanish speakers. 1+ years experience in working with youth or the public. Preference given to applicants who have worked in a museum context or with community organizations. Applicants with diverse backgrounds, experiences, ability, and perspectives are encouraged to apply.
SCHEDULE & SALARY
2-3 days per week, with occasional evening or weekend shifts; $20/hour
