Dover, DE (October 19, 2023) – The Biggs Museum of American Art announces today that Sandra K. James has been appointed Deputy Director, Head of Philanthropy and External Relations.
“We are delighted that Sandra will step into the role of Deputy Director,” said Executive Director, Michael Dudich. “An esteemed colleague, Sandra has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities since joining the Museum. She has built on our culture of philanthropy, positioning us well for the next stage of our expansion effort, and elevated the Museum externally, creating new audiences and opportunities for collaboration in particular our relationship with Delaware State University.
“I am privileged to be part of an accredited museum that is widely respected for its remarkable collection and quality exhibitions,” said James. “Thanks to the support of the State, a committed and experienced Board, a visionary executive director and a diverse and talented staff, the Biggs is well-positioned for the future.”
In addition to Philanthropy and External Relations, James will oversee the Membership and Visitor Experience functions in her new role.
Prior to joining the Museum in 2022, James spent more than 20 years in External Affairs roles for world-class corporations in the bio-pharmaceutical, chemical and agriculture industries. James was president of her own consulting business, serving both corporate and non-profit clients, including the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art. James served on the Board of Trustees of the Delaware Art Museum and the Delaware College of Art and Design. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Massachusetts and a certificate in Museum Studies from Northwestern University.
