BEYOND THE BIGGS

First State Heritage Park

The Biggs is a proud site in Delaware’s first urban park without boundaries, First State Heritage Park, which explores the stories of remarkable Delawareans and innovative governance in the First State. Interpreters wearing Revolutionary garb lead visitors on walking tours, seasonal lantern-lit programs, craft workshops and events highlighting bygone eras. This historic half-acre, centered around Dover Green, is where Revolutionary soldiers marched, the Constitution was ratified, freedom seekers escaped slavery, and suffragists expanded equality. Visitors begin at the John Bell House before seeing other sites within walking distance, including the Old State House, Legislative Hall, The Biggs, Delaware Public Archives, and Johnson Victrola Museum. Take a step back in time or relax under towering trees that have shaded visitors for 150 years.
