The Joy of Pastel: Maryland Pastel Society Signature Exhibition

JANUARY 29 – MAY 10, 2026

Founded in 1977, the Maryland Pastel Society is the oldest state society devoted to works of art in the medium of soft pastels and currently has more than 200 members in the Mid-Atlantic region. Signature Members were invited to submit one work each for this juried exhibition.

Reflections: 25 Objects for 250 Years of Delaware History

JANUARY 2, 2026 – JANUARY 3, 2027

In celebration of America’s 250th, this exhibition invites 25 Delawareans to reflect on the state’s history through the Biggs Museum’s collection. Each selected artwork is paired with personal reflections and curatorial insight, sharing stories that shape Delaware’s identity. Visitors can also add their own reflections in-gallery, making this an evolving conversation throughout 2026.

The Art of Elizabeth Catlett: From the Collection of Samella Lewis

FEBRUARY 12 – JUNE 21, 2026

Elizabeth Catlett (1915-2012), a sculptor and printmaker, is widely considered one of the most important African American artists of the 20th century. Her work celebrated the lives of Black women and confronted injustice, blending art with social consciousness.

Works in this exhibition come from the collection of artist, educator and author Samella Lewis, a student of Catlett’s who became one of her lifelong friends.

Adopt An Artwork: Student Exhibition

The Adopt-an-Artwork Exhibition showcases the creativity of Delaware students who explored works from The Biggs Museum’s collection through our annual arts-integration program. Guided by their teachers, students studied selected artworks and created their own inspired responses—expressing personal interpretations, curiosity, and connections to history, culture, and community.
